Cosy Corner East – Free Camp – WA

We found a fabulous FREE camp at Cosy Corner East at Kronkup, Western Australia, between Albany and Denmark. Also known as “The Rainbow Coast” which takes in Albany, Denmark and Walpole.

The camp site is FREE but be prepared to take “Pot Luck” as to whether you get a site or not. It’s quite popular with many travellers. If you are thinking of coming here for a night or two keep in mind that the weekends do get quite busy. We were here on a Wednesday morning and were amazed at the number of camper’s mid-week.

Take the Lower Denmark Road and then turn into Cosy Corner Road almost to the end. The road into the campsite itself is gravel and a little corrugated but no overhanging trees until you get into the actual camp area, depending on where you set up. There are only a few designated caravan sites, so make sure you read the sign on entering to see where it is best to park, otherwise the “Camp Host” may ask you to move. We thought some sites could be interesting to get into for a larger caravan. This campsite is basically right on the back of the sand dune.

There are stairs to take you down to the beautiful beach and crystal clear ocean waters.

No hidden costs (FREE).
No power or water.
Toilet onsite.
Rubbish bins.
Dump point.
Camp host available.
Restricted number of caravan sites.
Pet friendly (but must be on a leash).
Maximum 7 night stay.
Beautiful beaches for swimming, fishing or snorkelling.

Cosy Corner West, which is just a few hundred metres away, is very popular every day of the week. Here you will find BBQ’s and picnic tables, toilets and a cold outdoor shower. But this area is NOT designated for any camping.

When you come through this beautiful part of WA’s Great Southern Region make sure you go and visit the Cosy Corner Café and Store like we did. The best Mocha’s and even more delicious was the BLT with fresh hot fries. Yum and oh so delicious.
