Scarborough – QLD

After enjoying a wonderful few days in the little coastal haven of Hastings Point on the NSW North Coast it was time to suck it up, pack up, and head a little further north to return across the Queensland border🙌. Just two years ago we did this same border crossing and remember it well. That trip was part of our relocation adventure.

We timed this trip to avoid the heavy weekend traffic for our run through Brisbane but The Gold Coast Highway traffic was still bumper to bumper🚙🚌🚗🚒🛻🚚🚛🏍🚕. ‘Aahhh’!

Our destination was to the bay side suburb of Scarborough which is Brisbane’s northernmost suburb of the Redcliffe Peninsula. When we arrived we realised we were a tad early for ‘check-in’ time. Someone forgot about daylight saving time🤦‍♀️. But Michael at reception smiled and welcomed us and said it’s all good your site is ready.  We were happy to settle in away from the maddening crowd of traffic knowing we could explore the area on foot.🚶🚶‍♀️

As you know we love walking and looking around at new areas and Scarborough had so much to find and enjoy. 👍There is a short walking path around Scarborough Park and the marina which is just beside the Scarborough Holiday Village.

Another walk is along the foreshore of Scarborough Beach taking you to Osbourne Point and then further towards the suburb of Redcliffe. We have not been into this part of Brisbane before and like everywhere we go it is so good to walk and feel relaxed. There is much to see and do in the area.

Unfortunately, it wasn’t until our departure that we realised this is where the Gibb brothers lived for a short time back in 1958. Yes, the Bee Gees🧑‍🎤🧑‍🎤🧑‍🎤🎤🎼🎸. The house is still standing and we walked straight by not even knowing. Also had we known we could have walked an extra few kilometres into Redcliffe to see the Bee Gees Way Tour. Such a shame we didn’t know anything about this at the time of our visit.

One place we did frequent a couple of times was  Morgans Seafood Market 🦑🦞🦀🐙🐠and Takeaway. This is just a short walk from the caravan park. We enjoyed being able to buy fresh fish and school prawns as well as enjoying some of their lunch time crumbed fish and chips. We love fresh fish so we made sure we made the most of it to take home as well.

Unfortunately, the wet weather and storms that have ‘dogged’ us on this trip were once again catching up and the BOM (🤦‍♀️sorry! Bureau of Meteorology, as they now tell us they want to be known as) had started issuing storm warnings for the South East region of Queensland. 🌦🌧⛈🌩 We knew we were within a few hours’ drive to the security and dryness of our home 🏡and we didn’t really need to spend extra days waiting for more storms to clear. Graeme is not keen on the mix of storms, heavy traffic, and unfamiliar roads😉.

We decided and made the decision to finish this trip by cutting it a little short and head on home with the intention of returning to many of the places we have visited and of course finding new and exciting new places along the way. Now we have arrived safe and sound back home and guess what……the rain followed us.🌩⛈🌧

Stay safe out there everyone and for those we met along the way, it was a pleasure. We will be out there again in the future so stay tuned. In the meantime, we still have quite a few stories that we experienced on this trip. They can be saved up for another day.
