Tenterfield to Coffs Harbour – NSW

While travelling from Tenterfield to Coffs we stopped at a couple of interesting spots.

👉Bluff Rock – A 24 HR rest stop free camp. This is only a short drive along the New England Highway out of Tenterfield. We stopped here to see if we could get a good view and a photo or two of Bluff Rock which has another dark history. But honestly, we got a better view as we drove along the H/way.

👉Next, we stopped to check out the historic Railway Station of Deepwater. Although it is no longer an operating station and you can’t go inside the building you can walk around and imagine what the excitement and sounds would have been like back in its heyday. The station opened in 1886 and was the busiest and biggest freight centre North of Newcastle.

👉The Longhorn pub in Deepwater also offers camping at the back of the pub.

👉Back on the New England we travelled a little further before turning onto Bald Nob Road ‘shortcut’ bypassing Glen Innes and heading towards the Gwydir Highway and down the Gibraltar Ranges. The road of the little ‘shortcut’ needs a bit of work as it had a few extra pot holes than Graeme expected. There were a few occasions where we dropped our speed down to about 60km. Anyhow once we were back onto the Gwydir H/way we were back up and running, or should I say “down” as in descending the Range. We have done this road a few times and find it is okay if you travel to the conditions.

👉We stopped at the Loliback Rest Area on the Mann River for lunch. This is also a free 24hr camp with toilets, bins and picnic tables. It’s not a big area so we are guessing you need to get set up early if you need to stop before or after driving the steeper parts of the Range.

👉After lunch we headed to the Coffs Coast. For the first couple of nights, we stayed at NRMA Darlington Beach, Coffs Coast caravan park.  This park is probably one of the best parks we have been to for some time. The sites are the most spacious we have come across.
