Airlie Beach – QLD

We have always driven by this beach locality when travelling further North into Queensland. But this time we decided to make it a destination and stay for 10 days.

We decided on the NRMA Airlie Beach Holiday Park as upon doing a little research I could see that there were great walking paths across the road from the park. Also, it’s within walking distance of Coles and other shopping outlets which was very handy indeed.

👉Just next to the entrance of the caravan park you will find Shibby’s Fish & Chippery open Wednesday to Friday from 4.00pm – 8.00pm and Saturday and Sunday from 11.30am – 8.00pm. 👌🍟🐠

👉If you love Mangoes, they are in full bloom here at present. Either falling off the trees waiting for you to pick them up if the birds haven’t got to them first or available in trays at a pop-up stall just down the road from the caravan park.🥭🥭🥭

👉The Airlie Beach Boardwalk which you will find across the road from the caravan park, takes you along the foreshore to Airlie Beach Bay.  Early mornings were the go for me and gives you a wonderful view of the beaut blue cooling water and surrounding coastline out to the many nearby islands.

My walks took me to the Coral Coast Marina as I found that was far enough with the humidity being as it was. The marina is where many of the cruise boats, jet ski and boat hires are located. It was fun just sitting and watching the boats of all sizes coming and going and so many people enjoying themselves doing their thing. There are also some cafes and restaurants along here which seem to be very popular. Then after a breather it would be time to meander back to the caravan.

👉The Saturday markets along the Airlie Beach Bay are well worth a visit.

👉Take a stroll through the busy main street of town which is full of all sorts of boutiques, cafes, restaurants, The Airlie Hotel, and plenty of places to book a cruise or tour around the area.

👉The ocean may look very inviting for a swim, but unless you wear a stinger suit it’s best to keep clear. But don’t despair if you want to cool down and have a swim enjoy the Airlie Beach Lagoon located in the town centre. Free to all and free of stingers.

👉As you saw from our previous post, we hired a boat for a day from Airlie Boat Hire so that we could cruise and fish around some of the Whitsunday Islands. It was well worth every cent. If you are wondering it cost us $500 for the boat hire and $250 for fuel deposit. We didn’t use all the fuel and received a credit of $120. They also have an esky on board and we bought a bag of ice and some bait. It was only the 2 of us but the boat has a capacity for 6 passengers. I think this was the highlight of our time here and something Graeme was able to enjoy without having to walk too far.
