Caravan and Home Cooking

Cooking While in Self-Isolation at Home

As we are unable to travel in our caravan because of COVID-19 we thought we would share our recipes from home. We both love to cook so hopefully this will inspire you a little. For now we are self-isolating at home and keeping a social distance from others in the hope that this virus will be kicked in the butt sooner rather than later and we can all start travelling again. For now though stay safe and healthy and #stayhome.

Cheers Dixie and Graeme

Caravan cooking does not have to be any different to how you cook at home and so in this way we still eat as we do at home. We both love cooking and we believe there is absolutely no reason not to eat well while travelling. We eat as healthy as possible and that is why we have a lot of fresh produce. Our Jayco Silverline Outback has all the comforts of home, oven, grill, gas stove top, microwave, slide out BBQ. But just about all our caravan cooking is done outside on the Weber Baby Q, convection oven and  a fabulous Aldi induction cooktop.

Generally we stock up with fresh fruit, veggies and meats to last us a few days. As we go further down the track, when we do more 'free camping' and are off the grid, we will stock up with more and the Jayco has plenty of room for us to do so. Our pantry holds the staples that we require to make a tasty home made meal. In this day and age most country towns have a Supermarket (Woolworths, Coles, IGA, Aldi) where you can stock up. But we love to buy our meats and fruit and veggies if at all possible from local suppliers.

By doing this we hope that we are putting money back into the community by supporting local business. Some people may say that you find more bargains at a Supermarket and that local producers such as butchers are more expensive, and this may be so. We hardly ever visit  fast food outlets and 99% of the time we cook our own fresh delicious meals, no matter how tired we are after setting up camp. So stay tuned to find out what Graeme and Dixie can cook up, besides a storm 🙂
