GOGELDRIE – NSW

After we left Narrandera we headed further northwest and stopped in the town of Leeton so that we could pop into the Visitor Information Centre.

What an awesome town designed by Walter Burley Griffin as part of the Murrumbidgee Irrigation Scheme. The region now boasts very productive industries. Rice, walnuts, citrus, grapes and cotton are some that you will see as you drive along. Leeton is the home to Sumo citrus – a mandarin-orange hybrid, but unfortunately it was out of season and we could not find a local outlet that had some in store. We loved all the art deco buildings in town too.

After we did our touring and some grocery shopping we headed the 20kms to Gogeldrie. What a perfect location situated along the Murrumbidgee River and surrounded by natural bushland and agricultural crops. It’s a little off the beaten track but one of those places we loved as soon as we drove in. This trip is all about going to places we have never been before.

Apart from a couple of other campers we almost had the whole 17 acres of the park to ourselves.

This is such an awesome place to relax and go fishing and while here we caught a medium sized Murray Cod and a nice sized Yellow Belly. Above the Weir there is an extensive area of backed up water and on the weekend it gets busy with general boating, fishing and kayaking.
Every March the park is jam packed with campers and fishing enthusiasts for the annual “Bidgee Classic Fishing Comp” a catch and release comp with apparently $40,000 in prizes.

Anyway probably not the place to be if you are looking for a relaxing time but it does sound like fun as they have live bands and food stalls…………but we are happy we visited now and have thoroughly enjoyed our stay.

Well that’s enough for now.
