Here are a couple of 24HR free camps we came across on our way home between Mackay and Rockhampton on the Bruce Highway that you may like to take note of.
Waverley Creek Rest Area – QLD
This is a very well-kept park and area. The toilets were clean and it seemed to be a popular stop for those travelling through. Well worth keeping in mind if you are looking for a place to stop for the night.

Yaamba – QLD – Joan Tierney Park
We decided to drive onto Yaamba and stop for lunch and a ‘wee’ break. Another great free 24HR overnight rest area.
Plenty of room for all sorts of vehicles.

There is a pub right next door to the rest area. The Royal Oak Hotel/Motel, but I am pretty sure it is closed from what I can see on their FB page.
