Our Journey So Far – 3,500 Kilometers

This Easter we decided to spend at home as we have just finished our first shake down trial with the Jeep and Jayco where we covered approximately 3,500 kilometres in just under 4 weeks. Travelling along main roads and back roads and over the great divide and back, and through picturesque undulating rural country. We visited some fantastic heritage towns, like Gulgong and Gilgandra, along the way while we enjoyed sampling the local produce Gate-to-Plate”. This introductory trip has certainly tested our individual skills…..and yep we are ready to start the big loop in May. The only problem we had was coming home for Easter πŸ™‚. We cannot wait to get moving in a few weeks. Safe travels to all and Happy Easter.

Things We Found Useful Along the Way

Essentials

Although we are still new at travelling around Oz, here are a few things we found beneficial for our travels so far.

  • Water and lots of it.
  • Muesli bars or mixed nuts for an energy boost for those times when stopping is not an option.
  • Camps Australia Wide book and maps, maps and more maps.
  • Wipes for all occasions (Pack of 80 baby wipes fragrance free from Aldi $1.80 – much cheaper than hand wipes).
  • Lip balm.
  • Dash cam – for those unexpected incidents.
  • UHF radio – to let the truckers know behind us that we are aware of them and that we will give them space when they are ready to pass.
  • Telstra Wi-Fi 4GX Advanced III – some caravan parks have limited Wi-Fi bandwith.
  • Mobile phones – Using apps like Wiki Camps and Camps Australia and also Google when Siri gives us the wrong directions.
  • Uno – for those times when you need a challenge.

No doubt we will find more ‘things’ to take along the way to make our trip around Australia more enjoyable. πŸ™‚

Stay tuned as we gear up and get ready for travelling the bigger loop – right around Australia. We are very much looking forward to seeing this beautiful country and also meeting anyone who wants a chat along the way.
