Lake Maraboon – QLD

Thanks to some wonderful people we have met in the park, Graeme has been in his element by being able to go fishing for Red Claw. Lake Maraboon is well known for its Red Claw and we were excited to finally be able to get the chance to catch some.

These generous folks offered to help us out and Graeme was finally able to get his first catch of Red Claw. It was pretty awesome of them to do so. We coated the tails of our catch with melted butter, garlic, coriander, pepper and salt and proceeded to cook them on the BBQ. All I can say is yum, yum, yum.

These wonderful folks have now travelled on and will be missed around the camp fire. It was great meeting you all and no doubt we will stay in touch. Yesterday, Graeme was invited out on a boat with another fellow traveller, as his wife wanted a break, and today he came home with another bucket full of lively Red Claw for dinner tonight.

Lake Maraboon Holiday Village is a wonderful park and I think we have been so fortunate to have a site with water views over the Lake. The days have been mild, but sunny and the sunsets have been awesome. The bird life is quite prolific each morning and afternoon which is great to see. It’s also been wonderful to take a walk along the foreshore of the Lake.

So besides having such a great site the park also features:
• Two camp kitchens
• Unisex toilet/showers
• Laundry
• Swimming pool
• Powered sites ($35 per night)
• Unpowered sites
• Ensuite sites
• Cabins and Villas
• Dump point
• Pet friendly
• BBQ’s
• Kiosk
• Cafe, Bar Restaurant Open 8am to 6.30pm
• Kayak Hire
• Boat hire

The staff are very friendly and I love how they help everyone park their vans into their sites. As they say with a smile, they want to make sure everyone has a great start to their stay. You can also order pizza before 4.30 pm which is delivered to your site between 5.30 pm and 6.30 pm.

If you’re looking for a bit of retail therapy Emerald is only a short drive away and it has good shopping facilities including a couple of supermarkets plus other hidden gems.

We have found there is quite a lot to do around this area, so we have extended our stay here. Stay tuned for more information.
