Streaky Bay – South Australia

Our second last stop on the West coast of the Eyre Peninsula has been at Streaky Bay where we stayed at the Streaky Bay Islands Caravan Park. All I can say is wow, and wow and wow. The owners have really thought about the layout and functionality of this quite new park.

Streaky Bay Islands Caravan Park

It may be situated 5km from town, but it is truly one of the top parks we have visited along our journey. The majority of the sites are very large and can accommodate large vans and we have been told that they are 30ft long. Most sites have bay views.There are also sites which we noticed that are more than likely designed for the very “Big Rigs” (5th wheelers etc;).

On top of it all the discounted rate in the off-peak season applies to all. No membership required. Stay a week for $208.00.

Amenities

Here are a few of the facilities and features that I have taken straight from their website:

  • Easy to park large private lots bordered by tree screening between sites with glorious ocean and bay views to the rear. Ample space between the van sites with plenty of room for your van, annex boat and your vehicle;
  • Large air-conditioned recreation room has a pool table, large screen TV, family area, free book exchange, and a covered outdoor common area with adjoining cooking facilities;
  • MPEG 4 digital TV is re-transmitted throughout the Park, providing the free to air local channels of 7, 9, 10, and SBS. All you need is a standard digital TV antenna;
  • Drive through sites;
  • Separate spacious private ensuites;
  • Salt Water Swimming pool;
  • The camper’s kitchen is totally enclosed with all the comforts of home. The building has sheltered outdoor seating and dining areas with the free gas BBQs nearby;
  • Large laundry facilities with modern front load washers and dryers.

One particular amenity that we loved were the bathrooms. It’s like having your own ensuite. There are two amenity blocks on the property and they are kept very clean. The other thing I liked is that at reception there is a small store where you can grab so many of your day to day needs like Milk, Coffee, Toiletries, Bait and much more and the prices are quite good.

Feel like a pub meal? Then just let reception know and they will organise the Streaky Bay Hotel courtesy bus to come and pick you up and take you home again. So we could go in for dinner and have a few drinks without worrying about driving.

In town you will find the Bakery, Butcher, two Supermarkets, two Hairdressers, Newsagent, Pharmacy, Betta Electrics, Pharmacy and a fabulous café, florist gift shop. Looking for some great fish and chips then head on into town to Streaky Bay Seafoods.  But the only problem is that they are only open on certain days. You can’t miss them as they have a mobile ‘pop-up’ fish and chip shop outside their regular trading store where you can buy the freshest oysters and fish.
