Crossing the Nullarbor

Some of you have messaged and asked where we stayed when we crossed the Nullarbor plain. We have made the crossing twice in 2018 and then again in 2019 and find it nothing but enjoyable. Both trips started from Streaky Bay and although the Nullarbor finishes in Norseman WA I have also added our further destinations. First trip we went down to Esperance and the second trip we went inland to Kellerberrin.

Scroll down to the end of the page to see a list of all the States we have had the pleasure of visiting.

In 2018 we crossed in January. It was hot and temperatures were soaring to 45C on some days.

๐Ÿ‘‰Penong – Great overnight stay in Penong before heading across the Nullarbor. Very clean amenities, drive through sites, so you can stay hitched up, TV and Telstra reception, good hot showers. A good place to stop and sort out your fruit and vegies before going through Quarantine to WA and SA. $30 power and water for 2 adults.

๐Ÿ‘‰Euclaย โ€“ Once across we decided to make our way to Eucla and spend the night at the Eucla Caravan Park which is a member of the Family Parks group. With our membership the site cost for the night with power (no water) was $22.50.

๐Ÿ‘‰Fraser Range Stationย โ€“ What can we say but WOW another great overnight stop was had at Fraser Range Station. We left Eucla at 5.30 am and already the temperature was around 29C. The weather forecast suggested the temperature would be up to 45C so we were glad to get on the road early, as were many of the other travellers.

๐Ÿ‘‰Esperanceย โ€“ย We live in an exceptionally beautiful country and the beaches and rugged coastline of Esperance WA are a sensational example. The water is a crystal clear and the beaches are snow white.

In 2019 we travelled across at the end of April. It was quite different to the previous trip and the days were pleasant and some of the nights and early mornings quite cool.

๐Ÿ‘‰Nullarbor Roadhouseย โ€“ After almost two weeks of enjoying Streaky Bay today was the day to move on and continue our journey towards WA. So tonight we are overnighting at the Nullarbor Roadhouse.

๐Ÿ‘‰Mundrabilla Roadhouseย  โ€“ Because we stop a lot along the road to check out different points of interest or have lunch or get fuel etc., we decided to stay the night at the Mundrabilla Roadhouse as we did not feel like driving any further. $20 2A with power and water

๐Ÿ‘‰Ten Mile Rockโ€“ Luckily another traveller had mentioned to us to pass the Southern Hills Rest area and head a little further and stay at Ten Mile Rock. We are so glad we did. It was so much bigger with lovely flat areas to park and enough room for everyone. The night we stayed there were about 10 rigs scattered through the area. Free Camp โ€“ Another great overnighter with toilets.

๐Ÿ‘‰Boorabbinย โ€“ Next we headed to Boorabbin for our next overnight stay. We decided that we wanted to stop at a couple of towns along the way and did not want to make another epic journey.Free Camp โ€“ An another fabulous overnighter with toilets.

๐Ÿ‘‰Kellerberrin Caravan Parkย โ€“ Taking 5 days to cross the Nullarbor it was great to stop for a couple of nights and recharge ourselves. We chose the small Wheatbelt town of Kellerberrin approximately 205 kms East of Perth. $22 2A with power and water

There really are quite a few places to stop and enjoy like the breathtaking views over the Great Australian Bight. Bunda Cliffs has stunning views which plunge down the cliffs and out over the Southern Ocean. Just awesome. Make sure you stop at the many great vantage points and enjoy the spectacular views. Maybe next time we cross it may be at the time the migrating whalesย ๐Ÿณย pass by.
