ARMATREE – NSW

Have you ever heard of the village of Armatree? Well we certainly had not. So as we zig zag our way to the coast we took a slight detour and stopped a night in the village of Armatree a small NSW rural location approximately 370 kms North West from Sydney. We were attracted to the village by some great reviews about camping out the back of the Armatree pub. Well let me tell you, it is probably better than a lot of caravan parks we have stayed in over the past few weeks, with some exceptions of course. 👏😁🙌

After meeting Ash and Lib, the owners of this twice awarded ‘Best Bush Pub in NSW, 2018 and 2019, a big Congratulations 🎊🎉 guys, Ash gave us a guided tour of the outside area and our site.

Basically as it was not busy we had the best site, well ok we were the only ones using the overnight facilities and camping there. But we had been told if, we would have been there the weekend before, when the pub hosted a musical event; we would not have been able to move. The pub hosts many events during the year which brings people in from far and wide.

We had some great conversations with Ash and Lib and found out a little of the story behind the pub. They have worked extremely hard over the last 13 years bringing this old pub back to scratch and from what we saw on our Friday night’s stay it’s very popular with the locals too.

I can’t tell you how happy 😉👏 we felt for taking the time to turn off the highway and taking the short 3 km detour along the sealed road to the village and staying a night in Armatree at the pub. We enjoyed a couple of beers around the bar with locals in the afternoon and then more drinks and dinner in the evening.

It seems many of the locals were also enjoying the beginning of the weekend with a drink or two 🍻🍻at the pub. Not to mention the meat 🥩🍗🍖raffle for a little donation to a local school, which unfortunately we didn’t win. The grin 😁on the guy’s face who won the meat tray was worth more than anything on the tray.

So if you’re travelling anywhere between Walgett and Gilgandra along the Castlereagh Highway then check into Armatree. As Lib says “We have really worked to create a destination pub, that brings people to us”. We believe they have done a bloody good job👍🙌👏👌.
