Baffle Creek – Qld

The Baffle Creek camping areas are  just an hour and a half north of Bundaberg. The estuary of Baffle Creek is said to be one of the few remaining South East Queensland’s uniquely pristine coastal systems. The Baffle Creek system is fed from numerous small creeks and streams and wetlands that have their headwaters in light agriculture and rural development country. There are no artificial barriers in the estuary so fish population can move freely between the salt and freshwater ecosystems. The area is very popular to a variety of fishing enthusiasts.

If you’re into fishing/boating you will love it. Queensland fisheries researchers have identified that Baffle Creek has the highest concentration of Mangrove Jack🐠 on the Queensland coast. Other fish that may lure you in are Barramundi, 🐟 Grunter, Flathead, Bream, Trevally, Queenfish, Whiting, Prawns and Mud crabs. Mmmm just imagine being able to catch just one of these beauties to come home for dinner. So, if you love fishing, boating, 🛶canoeing, birdwatching🐦, walking 🚶‍♂️or just relaxing then check it out.

👉Our first stop was to visit the very small rural town of Rosedale. It consists of a pub which offers caravan parking ‘out the back’ for $5 per person per night, a general store, an agri-produce store and a Church. Looks like a few businesses have not been able to survive and have closed 😕 including one of the cutest looking ‘tiny tea house’🏡.

👉Next, we stopped at Flat Rock picnic area and boat ramp beside the quiet waters of Baffle Creek. This was a lovely spot to check out. We had a bit of fun looking to see if there were any fish swimming around in the shallows and watched a small sea turtle 🐢 as it cruised back and forth. This also gave us time to relax and enjoy the coffee ☕️and light picnic lunch 🥪 we had packed for the day.

👉Baffle Creek Nomad Caravan Park is roughly half-way between Gladstone and Bundaberg and situated on the northern side of the estuary towards the ocean entrance. This place was quite busy when we visited and has everything you need. Bookings are essential and you can check out their rates on the website https://bafflecreeknomadcaravanpark.com.au/.

📍Privat boat ramp

📍Secure entry

📍Fire pit and wood

📍Powered and unpowered sites

📍Camp kitchen

📍Laundry

📍Amenity blocks

📍Dump point

📍Pet friendly

📍Telstra reception

📍NO TV

👉Rules Beach Bush Camp, unfortunately seemed to be closed.  So, we can’t say much about this place as the gate was locked and the sign said ‘No Vacancy’…maybe everyone was hiding somewhere as we could not see anyone around. But it looks like it could be a great place to spend a few nights. The reviews on Wiki Camps seem to give it the thumbs.

👉Rocky Point Retreat Waterfront Campground is located at Winfield, Qld, 63km north of Bundaberg and on the southern bank of Baffle Creek. But be warned there are a few exclusions and to be honest after you add in the optional inclusions it is a little pricey. Check out prices at https://www.rockypointretreat.com.au.

📍No shops at all so make sure you have plenty of food, or better go fishing and catch dinner 😊

📍You must be self-contained as there is no amenity block. But you can hire your own mini ensuite or portaloo if you are not fully self-contained at a little extra cost of course.

📍The website mentions there are Only 7 powered sites – so I guess it’s a good idea to book if you want power and you cannot run your air-conditioning as you will overload the circuit.

📍Plenty of unpowered sites available.

📍Bore water taps at each site

📍Fire pits

📍Pet friendly

📍Telstra reception

📍Dump point

📍Public boat ramp (adjacent)

📍Right on the riverbank so not far to go boating or fishing.

Phew well that was a bit of reading to go through.
