Dubbo – NSW

Hi Everyone,

I was expecting to have a post on the blog each week :). But our adventures have kept us very busy and today are taking the time to catch up on photos and writing. Note to self: Make sure you write notes and name the places you have visited, including photos, otherwise like today you spend too much time working……..again……rather than smelling the roses.

Since the last time we posted we have travelled quite few kilometres. We left Lake Keepit and headed towards Dubbo. Along the way stopped for a lunch break at the Cooee Heritage and Information Centre, on the Dubbo side of Gilandra. What a surprise this stop was. Please take the time to go in and check out the exhibitions which include the Cooee March Collection, an Australian Collection of memorabilia and a plotted history of Gilgandra. The Gilgandra Visitor Centre is located on the banks of the Castlereagh River with a great open rest area which gives good access for caravans.

Our next stop was Dubbo Big 4 Discovery Park where we stayed a couple of nights. At this point we really needed to get a few housekeeping jobs completed, like re-stocking the pantry and cellar. At the same time we also had a great time visiting the Old Dubbo Gaol. This is a heritage site and a must-see in my opinion. The goal is said to be intact after 119 years in operation from 1847 to 1966. The way they have set it out is fantastic and so realistic. A couple of times looking into the cells and then all of a sudden have a light go on and someone look back at me and talk was pretty freaky but also very informative.

Another place we visited was the Dubbo Regional Botanical Garden. The gardens have a beautiful Japanese area “Shoyoen” which means strolling and refreshing. The day was particularly hot and so, yes it was a very relaxing refreshing stroll.

Below are a list of others places we have visited that may be of interest to you:
