LAKE ARGYLE – WA

Lake Argyle is right on the border of Western Australia and the Northern Territory. If you’re travelling from Darwin to Western Australia this gem of a place is one of the first attractions you will have the opportunity to enjoy and you don’t need a 4WD to get there. The road is sealed all the way, although a little narrow in places and some of the shoulder sections need to be avoided. So be aware if you are towing a caravan. If you’re going the other way from WA into the NT, like we are at present, it is the last attraction of WA before you hit the border into the NT.

We have had an amazing time staying at Lake Argyle Resort and Caravan Park. The park is full of grassed and shady sites and will suit everyone from camper trailers to larger mobile homes and everything in between. You can choose from powered or unpowered sites. It’s also great the way you are escorted to your site by a staff member. Being a large park this personal service is very helpful especially after a day on the road. Although there is a restricted opportunity to pre-book a site and the Resort generally operates on a first in best-dressed basis it is extremely uncommon for anyone to be told ‘sorry’ fully booked. In peak season it is common for the arrival queue to be 10 rigs or more deep waiting to be allocated a suitable site.

The caravan park is renowned for the Infinity pool which has a spectacular view over Lake Argyle. It’s a popular pool, even though the water is a little chilly because of the continuous flow of water. There are many quiet grassed areas where you can sit and enjoy the views over parts of the lake and across towards the immense rock faces of Banangum and Gundarim Ridges and these special relaxation areas become very popular at sunset when folks gather around to enjoy the changing colours. Some nights the sky fills with many stars and you can be forgiven for thinking if anything else can fit into it. Awesome!!!
