POINT TURTON – SA

Initially we had not planned to stay in Point Turton but for some reason we decided to call and see if the Point Turton Caravan Park had a vacancy. It just so happened they did and we were told we could have a waterfront site for 3 nights. Great we said and basically knew as soon as we drove in that we wanted to stay longer. We ended up staying for an extra 4 nights.

The managers Malcolm and Dani are awesome and keep this wonderful park clean and in tip top condition. Everyone we met were so happy with the park and everything associated with it.

The park has:

👌Clean amenities
👌Grassed powered sites (prices are standard $30 2A off peak and $35 2A peak period – no other concessions)
👌Camp kitchen with BBQ facilities
👌Cabins and Luxepods
👌Dump point
👌TV/Telstra reception (If you have a problem with TV reception the office will supply you with a co-ax cable to connect to their network)
👌Pet friendly
👌Free Wi-Fi

Wow what a great place. Point Turton is a very peaceful village overlooking Hardwicke Bay. If you’re into fishing you will love this place. Honestly just a hop step and a jump from the park is the jetty and boat ramp. Graeme caught the first fish of this trip and we had a delicious feed of Garfish but he didn’t manage to catch any of those elusive Squid. The park has great views over the bay and one of the facts that we found really interesting is that it’s built in the site of a disused flux quarry.

Town has a great little bakery and they also sell a few grocery and fishing items. Just behind the caravan park on the hill is the Point Turton Tavern which serves some pretty awesome meals with an uninterrupted view of the bay.

We took a couple of day trips to different areas. Yorketown for a little grocery shopping at the IGA and the Yorketown Butcher who supply quality meat to several local outlets. We bought a few nights worth of steak meals and some of their fully flavoured chili sausage.

We took short drive to the Point Turton swimming centre and also checked out the great cave on the beach of Magazine Bay. The bay is also said to be a great place for fishing. In town is a great walking path along the foreshore which joins in with the famous ‘Walk the Yorke’ trail.

While staying at Point Turton we decided to tour the bottom end of the Yorke Peninsula and spent an exciting day exploring Marion Bay, Innes National Park and Corny Point areas before returning back to Point Turton.

We are loving SA’s Yorke Peninsula and are looking forward to coming back for a longer stay. Actually we are already planning if we can stop here again on our return home later in the year. Point Turton and the Yorke Peninsula has got so much to offer and we feel we could easily have spent another week or more here but we have many more destinations to visit.

Thanks so very much Malcolm and Dani for making us feel so welcome in this fabulous part of the Peninsula. You are doing a great job and love that you always have time to have a chat with everyone. Awesome.
