Kinka Beach – QLD

We had a great time staying at Discovery Parks Coolwaters Yeppoon. It’s actually located at Kinka Beach which is about 15 minutes’ drive South of Yeppoon.

Just a short walk to the beaches where you can enjoy unfiltered views over the water to the world-renowned Great Keppel Island. The waters in Keppel Bay at Kinka Beach are very tranquil which makes it excellent for swimming, fishing or just enjoying a great walk along the beach.

The caravan park although very busy is large and has a lot to offer any type of traveller. Our site was not the best and was called “Birdcage 4”. We guessed and were told later that this area had been occupied by bird cages. But the view from the van over the grassed areas towards the water of Mulambin Creek made up for it. Our site was fine gravel and dirt so we decided we were lucky that it didn’t rain during our stay.

The park also has:

• Three amenity blocks
• BBQ areas
• Large grassed areas
• Tennis Court
• Jumping pillow
• Waterpark
• Swimming pool
• Two dump points
• Camp Kitchen
• Free Wi-Fi if you can log in.
• TV reception great if plugged into the park cable
• Pet friendly

It cost us $42.30 per night with power and water and Discovery Park membership discount. Normal fee per night for two adults, at this time of the year is $47 for a powered site. Also watch out for the pie and ice cream vans that come around the park at different times. If a wood fired pizza is more your thing then check the advertising board to see what nights they are available and make your order.

The park is in a great location to go exploring. We could walk to Causeway Lake which we were told is a great place for fishing. Apparently the best fishing occurs during the “run-through” when the larger tides push water into Mulambin Creek.

We walked the beaches of Kinka and Mulambin many times and often found that we were the only ones around. The people we did pass were usually taking their dogs for a run. We especially loved exploring the hidden rock caves at low tide along Mulambin beach.

From the caravan park the seaside hamlet of Emu Park is a mere three kilometres drive down the road and has a range of shops and cafes while Yeppoon is about twelve kilometres in the other direction. Next our post about our visit to Yeppoon – what a fabulous coastal town with lots to offer everyone.
